In the images I have presented, a variety of themes are evident and intentional. An interpretation of the world around me, whether found in our cultures fascination with food as art, or the whimsy and balance of the natural world, are two avenues I have chosen to interpret for viewers. The ideas spur from aspects of the subject matter that affect me the most visually. I then attempt to investigate and simplify that initial inspiration, breaking it down to its raw components. Once I myself have gained an understanding of why I have decided to sculpt a cheeseburger in wood, I present the piece to the viewer to perhaps gain a new insight or understanding of the subject, or just for simple visual enjoyment. With wood as a medium, I have the ability to interpret the world around me with a variety of brilliant colors and linear and curvaceous forms. The body of work, although quite different at times in subject matter, is unified in the aspects of medium and artistic intent. In my own personal career as an artist, this focus has allowed me a freedom of interpreting my own art work as an evolving series of ideas, not held down to parameters of several bodies of work. For example, rather than The fish series, it is one large body, changing as I do. This gives each one of a kind sculpture a sense of rarity and echoes the significance of the original subject matter.
